Completed Campaigns

Admiral Quixote’s campaign record is currently 12-2.  This includes all completed games at public sites.  His undefeated streak came to an end after a little over three years of playing Planets. He has greatly appreciated the opportunity of playing many of the best players in the game.  So far, he has played as the following races: Aczanny (1), Borg (3), Bots (1), EE (1), Feds (2), Lizards (1), Peeps (1), Privs (3), and Rebels (1).

EE Civil War (EE)

Tagmeister challenged me to a civil war. We decided to play the Evil Empire since neither of us had played it before.  Tagmeister picked the starting conditions and managed a quick victory. Congratulations Tagmeister!

Fourth Darwinian Tourney

Many thanks to Sir AdB and Sir Dave for hosting the games in which Admiral Quixote was involved.

Round 4 Game A (Privs)

Admiral Quixote played Privs and his partner Mattrixx is tried the Rebels for the first time against the well established team of Sir AdB (Borg) and Administrator Tronthor (Privs).  It proved to be quite an interesting and challenging match. The Smurf Killers got off to a great start, but SYBIL managed to come back from behind and win. Kudos to Sir AdB and Administrator Tronthor.

Round 3 - N/A, the Smurf Killers received a bye.

Round 2 Game A (Feds)

Admiral Quixote revisited the Feds after a two-year hiatus while his partner Admiral Mattrixx tried the UEA.  Their rivals, the Tortoise and the Hare, selected the Crystals and the Evil Empire.  After a tough fight for the resources of the galaxy, the Smurf Killers eliminated their rivals.  Click here for a VCR battle from the game.

Round 1 Game A (Rebels)

Admiral Quixote played the Rebels for the first time in this challenge.   With the help of his Privateer partner, Admiral Mattrixx, the Smurf Killers managed to defeat the mighty Force Fish Jimmy.  Playing against two Evil Empire players was an intriguing challenge.

Bidding War I: Ebay is for losers! (Aczanny Pyramids)

In an original scenario, Pyro hosted a team game where the players bid on items - including races - before the game started.  The bidding was quite interesting.  Admiral Quixote played with Khobrah for the first time.  Khobrah purchased the Centaurs and Quixote bought the Aczanny Pyramids.  He had never played them before, but they looked intriguing.  The Aczanny/Centaur combination made for a unique partnership.  After some initial diplomacy, the admiral and his partner teamed up with the Newbies (EHonda/Rebels and Satael/Lizards) since both teams shared common victory conditions.  It took 25 turns to achieve their victory conditions.  Click here for a VCR battle from the game.

Battle of the Egos (Borg)

Admiral Quixote challenged the notorious Borg-leader THRAWN to a dual at RCworld where THRAWN could pick all the starting conditions.  This skilled opponent requested a Borg civil war, but graciously complied with the suggestion of campaigning in the Snowflake galaxy.  After an awkward start, it initially appeared as if the good admiral would suffer his first defeat at Planets.   However, Admiral Quixote survived four assaults on his homeworld before recapturing the initiative.  THRAWN eventually conceded. Pick Your Poison II (Bots)

Hosted by the imaginative Khobrah, this challenge allowed each leader limited funds to buy extra resources – including ships from other races.  Admiral Quixote tried his hand at the Bots and his best purchase was the Peep dirk.  A cloaked, hyper-capable, minelayer is the Bot’s best friend.   With the help of Tenser, the good admiral managed to claim the core of the galaxy and ring it with zero guns.  Quixote’s victory was assured at that point and the game ended shortly thereafter.  Click here for a cool VCR battle from the game.

Second Darwinian Tourney (Privs)

This campaign was intended to see which three-man teams could seize control of the Starburst cluster.  This galaxy of 420 stars consisted of 60 clusters of 7 stars each.  Each cluster had a pre-existing jumpgate within it making campaigns quite interesting.  Admiral Quixote (Privs), Beezle (Scavs), and Tagmeister (Borg) conquered all.  Click here for a cool VCR battle from the game.

First Darwinian Tourney (Privs)

The first of Admiral Quixote’s tournaments aimed at expert players, this initially started as an individual tournament where only one could win.   It was played on the Yale Lite map at the Saarland Outpost.  Since the Privateers were recently released, Admiral Quixote decided to give them a try.  They proved so strong – at that point in time – that the players quickly agreed to change the game to everyone vs. the Privs (Senator Guru also was playing the Privs).  Admiral Quixote and Senator Guru won that campaign.  Fortunately, the Privateers were later toned down to greatly reduce their resource-gathering prowess.

Doomed Borg 2 (Borg)

Created by Chris Olin and hosted by the Saarland Outpost, Admiral Quixote played the Doomed Borg.  Three teams of eight-players each were sent to track down the Doomed Borg in a very large and strange galaxy.  The Doomed Borg (DB) and the 24 Allies landed in a galaxy where three races where in the midst of a civil war.  With the help of a mole and by befriending the noble Clay Ellum – one of the civil war players – Admiral Quixote survived his greatest VGA Planets challenge of all time when the surviving Allies eventually surrendered.

For those interested in more detail, an extensive game log was kept by Admiral Quixote.  It is an interesting perspective for all interested in how to fight with (or against) the Borg.  Click here for a cool VCR battle from the game.

Cisco’s Challenge (Peeps)

Responding to a challenge by Ben Cisco that he could put together an “unbeatable” team of four races, Admiral Quixote let the worthy Cisco pick all the starting conditions.  Played on the Yale map at the Saarland Outpost, Quixote played the Peeps as he led a team of Andreas Benne (Birds), Alexander Gessinger (Borg), and Tagmeister (UA) to victory.  The good admiral especially salutes Andreas Benne for his efforts in this game as he managed to give the game's creator, Tim Wisseman, nightmares about our unstoppable advance.  In Wisseman’s words,

“I am having nightmares about a fleet of Deth Speculas cloaked a creaping through my web mines headed for an important crystal base that I am going to miss…”

This was a very well-executed campaign and lots of fun to play.  The good admiral wishes his fellow Quixotes well wherever they may journey.  Click here for a cool VCR battle from the game.

Doomed Borg (Lizards)

Created by Chris Olin, who also served on the hot seat as the Doomed Borg, four teams raced to destroy the Doomed Borg.  Playing as the Lizards, Admiral Quixote led the team that was awarded the victory prize at the Saarland Outpost.  The entire team consisted of: Tagmeister/Richard Weems (UA) – who also served as executive officer, Bob Andrews (Scavs), Senator Guru/Michael Henderson (Birds), and Tim Wisseman (Crystals).  In all fairness, Chris did not give himself enough resources to make it a sporting game.  However, it was a good exercise in teamwork and quite enjoyable.   Special thanks to Jon Nunn who served as a non-playing advisor for Quixote’s team.

Fed / Borg Wars (Borg)

The fourth V4 game at the Saarland Outpost consisted of 14 Federation players and 16 Borg players.  Quixote learned a lot about Borg king interactions before he managed to conquer the entire Zeta galaxy.  The good admiral enjoyed the experience, but strongly recommends playing in galaxies with less than 500 stars whenever possible.

SPH 4 (Feds)

Quixote’s first public appearance at the now-defunct Nikita site.   He took command of the Feds about turn 10 and had a lot of fun learning the game.  After wiping out most of the other players (including all the Borg opponents), the game ended in a three-way victory between Quixote, Tagmeister (UA), and Corison (Scavs).
