WOOOOOOOOOOEEEEEEE!
Imagine waking up to ten degrees below zero Fahrenheit -- -20 to -30F with wind chill (- 23 Celsius; -28C to -34C with wind chill). I drove a bit northwest of Chicago Thursday night and awoke to these conditions. My compliments to the State of Illinois; despite ridiculous low temperatures and the occasional snow and sleet, Illinois did a great job keeping the roads clean and drivable. The only hazardous aspect was during a brief snowfall, it was difficult to see a snowplow in front of me until I was upon it.
I had a great trip. Although I may delay future visits until the arrival of warmer weather.
Welcome to my world.

Been there, done that. I spent seven years in Madison, WI. That last winter, Christmas Day it was 22 below, before you tacked on 20-30 mph winds. The only thing that warmed me up was looking at the Weather Channel and seeing how the poor bastards in the Twin Cities were doing (usually 5-15 degrees colder).
So then I went to a job interview on Long Island. In January. In 40 degree weather. Suffice to say I took the job... Every time my wife (a Chicago native) mutters about the weather, I point out, "Dear, this is a record setting cold snap here." and she says, "Oh, yeah. OK we can stay..."

Way too freakin' cold for my taste. Way too cold.
Chicago in the fall and in the spring is wonderful. Chicago in the summer and the winter not so wonderful.
